Intrepid class

Rick Sternbach was asked what the designation for the Intrepid class is, his reply was as follows -

"I think Voy qualifies as an Explorer, though probably the smallest of its kind. The "slang" label that I always used in-house was Troubleshooter, but that needs clarification and translation into something better."

A designation of scout probably comes from the pre-publicity material for Star Trek Voyager, the same material that mentioned that Voyager was the second of an initial batch of four ships.

NCC-74600U.S.S. Intrepid
History:commissioned in Nov 2370, first ship of her class.
Notes:Registry is allegedly taken from a newsgroup post from Rick Sternbach - though he has subsequently denied this. Certainly Google Groups can find no such post, just lots of references to it's alleged existence. The LUG RPG supplement Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 1: The Ships of Starfleet opts for NCC-74500, whilst the Decipher RPG supplement Starships goes for NX-74620.

"For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see,
Saw the Vision of the World, and all the wonder that would be..." - Alfred Tennyson
NCC-74705U.S.S. Bellerophon

The Marvel comics have given the other two members of the first batch of four Intrepids as the U.S.S. Stargazer and the U.S.S. Pathfinder.

Last Unicorn Games ST:TNG RPG Players' Guide supplement mentions an Intrepid class U.S.S. Magellan. No indication is given as to whether this is the same ship as the one mentioned in the DS9 episode "Sacrifice of Angels", which is commonly believed to be a Galaxy class explorer.

The LUG RPG supplement Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 1: The Ships of Starfleet calls this class a Light Explorer and lists the U.S.S. Trailblazer NCC-74697, U.S.S. Vor'kann NCC-74712, U.S.S. Gallant, U.S.S. Nelson, U.S.S. Vanguard, U.S.S. Goliath, U.S.S. Zealous, U.S.S. Theseus and the U.S.S. Audacious.

The Decipher RPG supplement Starships lists U.S.S. Blackthorne NCC-76719, U.S.S. Gallant NCC-74882, U.S.S. Nelson NCC-74718 and the U.S.S. Zealous NCC-74731.
